A Policeman's Ghostly Tale

I was on the 3-11 p.m. shift working the desk/dispatching area for the desk sergeant while he was at lunch.   I received a long distance phone call from a gentleman from Michigan, I don't recall the exact town but it was small in the northern part of the state.  He related to me that he had just called and spoke with his mother, who lived in the city senior housing project here in our city. He said that his call was to talk but also to wish her well wishes on her birthday.  He related to me that her being elderly and he sensing that she was experiencing some difficulty and could we please check on her to ease his fears, to call him back ASAP .  I told him that I was just covering the desk while the supervisor was out to lunch and since that was my patrol area I would check the apartment of his mother , as we had pass keys to the city housing projects. He told me that he was VERY CONCERNED and could I have it checked out immediately. Be it early p.m. 6-7 p.m. or so and not much going on I said I have it taken care of and I would get back to him w/i minutes.  Being a senior officer and having a junior officer assigned to me I felt he couldn't get into too much trouble just checking out the health of an elderly woman and get back to me so I sent him.  Several moments past when he came on the m/v's two- way that he had pounded on the door, lights were on ( it was daytime), and he could hear the television . He asked for advice as too proceed as the front door was locked.

He was told to enter the unit when the housing authority manager came over, they live on the grounds, a matter of minutes if that. It seemed like forever but w/i minute I got a call at the switchboard from the officer. He was verbally shaken @ what they found.  The woman was dead, lying in her efficiency apartment, and had the telephone on the bed next to her head. It was quite apparent she had passed away days earlier.

I know your going think then ask why didn't we just call her on the phone, I tried it was busy for obvious reasons.  I couldn't or would not believe it so when I was relieved I went up myself . You cannot imagine what we were looking at and then having to call her son back with the information.

I experienced many strange things that one could only imagine from murder scenes, death by accidents, strange phenomena, sights & reportings, sights & sounds of the body when the time of life leaves and death begins.  Most of these type of reports by us were never available to the General Public, but killed before they ever got out!

Do what you wish with this related incident report, but I tell you, it is the truth!  And after all these years, it feels good to let it out and off my chest!

I was trained to always distrust all except what you see for yourself, I think you'll see that character in all police officers and most have incidents they'd love to relate even if just to get it off their chest and tell another. Thanks for being a sounding board!

THE ABOVE STORY IS AN INCIDENT THAT WAS SENT TO ME BY A POLICE OFFICER.   FOR OBVIOUS REASONS HE REQUESTED TO STAY ANONYMOUS
